Ring unveils 2K video for improved home security cameras

Ring has announced the integration of 2K video resolution for its Floodlight Cam Wired Pro and Spotlight Cam Pro devices, as well as the introduction of a new Vehicle Detection feature for its home security product line.

The upgrade to 2K video resolution will be launched for customers in Australia and New Zealand beginning 8 January 2025, marking Ring's highest level of image quality yet. This enhancement is aimed at providing clearer and more detailed home security footage for users.

"Since Ring was founded in 2013, we've reimagined how customers stay connected to the things that matter to them," a spokesperson from Ring stated. "We're always evolving our products to deliver for our customers, and today we're excited to announce that we're enhancing our camera lineup with 2K video, Ring's best image quality yet."

The 2K video capability will be available on the Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro and Ring Spotlight Cam Pro. Ring has indicated that current users of these devices will be able to upgrade to 2K resolution at no extra cost through the Ring app.

"While Ring's existing HD Video delivers crisp resolution, we are always working to enhance the Ring experience for both new and existing customers, and 2K will deliver even greater sharpness and texture quality for enhanced detail and clarity," the spokesperson from Ring added. "Ring Vision combines software, hardware, and Ring's internal expertise to ensure balanced colour, contrast, and motion smoothing."

Alongside the video resolution upgrade, Ring has introduced a Vehicle Detection feature, which will notify customers of moving vehicles detected within the camera's field of view. This new functionality will be included as part of its Smart Alerts platform available to those with a Ring Home subscription plan.

The Vehicle Detection feature is available on several Ring products, including the Floodlight Cam Wired Pro, Spotlight Cam Pro, Spotlight Cam Plus, Floodlight Cam Wired Plus, Pan-Tilt Indoor Camera, Indoor Camera (2nd Gen), Battery Video Doorbell, Battery Video Doorbell Plus, Battery Video Doorbell Pro, Video Doorbell Wired, and Wired Doorbell Pro.

The rollout of the Vehicle Detection feature began today and will progressively become available to all customers with eligible devices over the coming weeks.
