Hexicor Telematics, AMA Fleet unite to form major telematics partner

Fri, 27th Feb 2026

Hexicor and AMA Fleet have merged and will trade as Hexicor Telematics, forming one of Australia's largest Teletrac Navman channel partners in fleet telematics.

The combined business brings together Hexicor's national ICT and managed services footprint with AMA Fleet's expertise in logistics and fleet operations. All staff from both businesses will be retained.

Hexicor Telematics will focus on fleet safety systems, compliance reporting and managed services for transport operators across heavy and light vehicle fleets, with an additional focus on government and regional fleet customers.

Partner scale

Teletrac Navman sells fleet management and telematics products through channel partners, including resellers and integrators that install hardware and provide fleet support services. The merger increases partner scale as transport operators seek national coverage and consistent service delivery across depots and routes.

Teletrac Navman Australia National Channel Sales Manager Paul Scott said the combined partner can meet customer requirements that span both geography and specialist fleet knowledge.

"As telematics solutions continue to evolve and become deeply integrated into fleet operations, customers are seeking partners that can offer both nationwide scale and specialist expertise," Scott said.

He said the combined capabilities of Hexicor and AMA Fleet would strengthen support for operators managing safety, compliance and performance requirements.

Safety focus

The merged business is positioning itself around a shift in fleet technology from location tracking to safety analytics, with a particular emphasis on video telematics. Video telematics uses in-vehicle cameras linked to analytics software for event detection and incident review.

The companies also pointed to Australian road safety outcomes, citing more than 1,300 road deaths recorded in 2024, which they described as the highest annual toll in 15 years.

AMA Fleet founder Cameron Evans said the road toll and changing driver demographics are increasing the importance of safety systems for fleet operators.

"For me, with two teenaged P-platers in the house, this is personal. I'm about safer roads for all of us," Evans said.

"And with driver shortages and more new drivers from a variety of backgrounds now behind the wheel, intelligent safety systems are no longer optional - they're essential," he said.

Compliance demand

Compliance requirements are also reshaping the Australian fleet technology market. Heavy vehicle operators face obligations under Chain of Responsibility rules and National Heavy Vehicle Regulator requirements. Companies are also responding to emissions policies that influence procurement and operational reporting.

Hexicor Group CEO Paul Bouris said these conditions are increasing demand for technology that provides auditable records.

"Transport operators are under constant regulatory scrutiny," Bouris said.

"Technology is becoming an essential compliance partner - helping organisations manage fatigue, mass compliance, emissions and driver behaviour in a structured, defensible way," he said.

The companies also pointed to workforce pressures, saying about half of Australia's truck drivers are over 55, with 20 per cent expected to retire within three years.

Video analytics

Hexicor Telematics is highlighting camera-led telematics as a core part of its offer, including forward- and driver-facing cameras and analytics designed to detect fatigue and risky driving behaviours. The firms said these tools are increasingly relevant to insurers and regulators, particularly for incident reconstruction and investigation.

Bouris said fleet operators are using telematics differently than when tracking was the main use case.

"We're seeing a shift from reactive reporting to proactive intelligence," he said.

"Combining vehicle data with visual analytics allows operators to understand not just what happened, but why - and how to prevent it happening again."

"Hexicor Telematics now has the capability and focus to ensure operators have the tools to run safer, smarter fleets," Bouris said.

Integration plans

The combined group will increase installation and project delivery capacity through Hexicor's in-house technical teams and ICT managed services. Evans joins the Hexicor Telematics board as a director and will become the principal Teletrac Navman partner under the new structure.

Hexicor founder and chairman Bob Bishop said the merger comes as geographic coverage and skills are becoming more important for growth in the sector.

"Opportunities for profitable business growth relating to geographic coverage and skills enhancement do not happen every day, so we are delighted with the timing of this merger with AMA," Bishop said.

Evans said the deal formalises a long-standing working relationship between the two businesses.

"This is very much a meeting of the minds," he said.

"We built our business on long-term relationships and exceptionally low churn. Combining our respective strengths means we can focus on what really matters - helping drivers get home safely to their loved ones at the end of every shift," Evans said.
