Boost Mobile celebrates 25 years with discounts & bonus data offers

Mon, 11th Aug 2025

Boost Mobile has marked its 25th anniversary, unveiling a series of offers for new customers as the brand reflects on its long-standing presence in the Australian prepaid mobile market.

Established in 2000 on Sydney's Northern Beaches, Boost Mobile began its operations just before the Sydney Olympics and has developed a reputation for shaping the prepaid mobile landscape. According to the company, its origin story is intertwined with local surf culture, with the name inspired by a surfer discussing 'boosting a wave' at an Avalon nightclub.

Over the course of 25 years, Boost Mobile has introduced a number of initiatives in the sector, including the early adoption of unlimited talk and text, the sale of refurbished handsets, eSIM functionality, and long-expiry prepaid plans. These features, which have since become standard across the industry, were highlighted as examples of Boost Mobile's approach to meeting customer needs.

The brand's identity is also closely connected to action sports, reflected in its logo and history of supporting sports events and athlete partnerships. Boost Mobile has maintained collaborations with several athlete ambassadors, including long-time supporter Sally Fitzgibbon. Recent research from Retail Doctor indicates that brand trust, network reliability and perceived value are key drivers for Australian consumers choosing Boost Mobile as their provider.

In 2024, the company was acquired by Telstra, its long-time network partner, and continues to offer services on the Telstra Prepaid Mobile Network. The company asserts that it is the country's longest-running continuous Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO).

To mark the anniversary, Boost Mobile has announced a series of promotional offers. New customers activating a $300 SIM before 6 October 2025 will receive an extra 25% data, while all 28-day plans activated by that date will provide an additional 25GB of bonus data. Selected SIM cards, including the $49 and $300 options, are discounted to AUD $17 and AUD $250, respectively, during the offer period. Further promotional offers are available in supermarkets and other retail outlets nationally.

The core data allocation for the $39 plan is set at 25GB, with 25GB of bonus data available on activation, and the $300 plan offers 240GB of core data with a 25% bonus for new activations. Network coverage uses full access to the Telstra Prepaid Mobile Network, with a 150Mbps speed cap on 4G and 5G services. The plans also include unlimited domestic calls and SMS, international allowances, and data rollover features on eligible recharges.

Bobby Geldens, CEO of Boost Mobile Australia, attributed the company's progress to its customer-focused strategy, saying, "Boost Mobile has been all about its customers since day one. Our ongoing commitment to deliver value and reliability has helped Boost grow and lead in the category. We're proud to be Australia's OG mobile challenger brand and oldest continuous MVNO, and we've got tonnes of energy to keep delivering for our customers for the next 25 years!"

Geldens also recognised those who have contributed to the business's development across its history, stating, "To everyone who has been involved with Boost Mobile during its history, including its founders, an incredibly loyal and talented team, athlete ambassadors from across the Australian sporting landscape, action sports partners, and most importantly our customers, we say thank you."

Boost Mobile's current promotions extend across a range of products, with extra data and discounted SIM pricing forming the key draws. The business continues to offer prepaid plans without lock-in contracts, reflecting its objective to provide flexibility and value to customers.
