Ai powered military counter drone technology over ukrainian landscape

DroneShield expands Ukraine presence, advances AI counter-drone tech

Thu, 21st Aug 2025

DroneShield has expanded its operations in Ukraine through a new local partnership, focusing on strengthening on-the-ground support and advancing its AI-powered counter-drone technology.

The company stated that feedback from the battlefield in Ukraine has been instrumental in improving its artificial intelligence systems. These enhancements enable faster and more accurate detection and adaptation to emerging drone tactics, and are now being applied across its operations in over 40 countries.

AI advancements

DroneShield reported that real-world operational experience in Ukraine has significantly sharpened the capabilities of its AI-driven counter-drone solutions. The challenging conditions of ongoing conflict have required detection systems to be both highly responsive and adaptable to novel aerial threats.

According to the company, its AI and machine learning improvements are a direct result of exposure to rapidly-evolving threat scenarios in Ukraine. This experience helps to increase both the speed and accuracy of detection and mitigation, benefitting users internationally.

"The conflict in Ukraine has crystallized what forward-looking militaries already recognized: the need for advanced, adaptive counter-drone solutions is now a matter of national resilience, not optional investment," said Oleg Vornik, Chief Executive Officer of DroneShield. "Our work in Ukraine, while only one element of our global operations, has proven pivotal in advancing the sophistication of our AI, with profound benefits for all our users worldwide."

New partnership for local support

The newly established partnership in Ukraine, which remains undisclosed for security reasons, is intended to ensure robust local support for customers. The arrangement will allow DroneShield to provide rapid technology updates as well as facilitate ongoing intelligence sharing with its headquarters, while maintaining strict operational security and confidentiality.

The company also emphasised that while Ukraine is symbolically significant and central to recent technology advances, it constitutes only a small part of DroneShield's broader global market. Its counter-drone systems are active in more than 40 countries, including deployments throughout Europe, the Americas, and Asia.

Global growth

The increased presence in Ukraine aligns with a broader surge in demand for counter-drone solutions worldwide. As the threat from drones becomes increasingly recognised by military organisations, investments in counter-unmanned aerial systems (CUAS) are being viewed as critical for national security.

The company noted that resilience in drone defence is now considered essential for allied nations, who see timely adoption of such technology as integral rather than discretionary.

DroneShield's systems are used to protect military, government, law enforcement, critical infrastructure, commercial interests, and VIP security operations globally.
