SpinTel launches AUD $74 500/50Mbps NBN plan for fast, affordable home internet

Thu, 24th Jul 2025

SpinTel has announced a new 500/50Mbps broadband plan aimed at Australian households seeking faster internet at a lower cost.

The new plan is priced at AUD $74 per month for the first six months, increasing to AUD $84.95 per month afterwards, providing a high-speed connection designed to appeal to users with growing digital demands.

Plan details

SpinTel's 500/50Mbps NBN plan is positioned to cater to the increasing number of Australians requiring rapid upload and download speeds for remote work, streaming in 4K resolution, and managing smart home devices. The plan offers up to 500Mbps download and 50Mbps upload speeds, which is expected to support larger households and multiple active devices simultaneously.

Liam Bal, Chief Executive Officer of SpinTel, outlined the rationale behind the offering. According to Mr Bal, customers are seeking improved broadband experiences that do not involve premium pricing.

"NBN Co's speed upgrades are coming in September, but many households need that extra bandwidth now," said Mr Bal. "We're giving our customers the chance to get ahead of the rollout and enjoy faster upload speeds today, without paying top dollar.
Our new 500/50 Mbps plan is ahead of the curve, priced at just $74 a month for the first six months, then $84.95 ongoing. It's rare to see this level of performance at such an accessible price. In fact, it's often better value to upgrade to 500/50 than stay on legacy 100/20 plans, especially when you compare it to other high-speed options on the market."

NBN upgrades

The 500/50Mbps speed tier is part of a broader set of wholesale upgrades being introduced by NBN Co, intended to support households with higher capacity needs. Such upgrades are particularly relevant for homes with multiple users engaging in bandwidth-intensive activities such as several simultaneous 4K video streams or cloud-based professional duties.

SpinTel's plan highlights both improved download and upload speeds, targeting families and professionals who prefer not to pay higher rates associated with some premium offerings.

Key features

In launching the new plan, SpinTel emphasised several features designed for ease of use and flexibility:

  • 50Mbps upload speed, supporting video calls, cloud storage, and file sharing
  • Capability for multiple devices to connect and perform demanding tasks in parallel
  • No lock-in contract, allowing customers the flexibility to leave if their needs change
  • Simple switching for current NBN users, often with same-day activation and without the need for a technician visit

The plan's symmetrical capability is intended to ensure that both uploads and downloads happen efficiently, which SpinTel states is especially beneficial for remote working users and students who rely on consistent video conferencing and large file transfers.

Market perspectives

Price comparison against existing high-speed NBN plans indicates that SpinTel's pricing for the 500/50Mbps tier is positioned to attract customers considering upgrades from older, lower-speed tiers. According to Mr Bal, the plan may become appealing to users currently on 100/20 Mbps plans and seeking better value as market options evolve.

Availability of the SpinTel 500/50Mbps offering will depend on NBN address-level eligibility. SpinTel notes that activation can happen on the same day for many customers, minimising transition delays for those seeking immediate upgrades.

SpinTel continues to operate as a privately-owned ISP in Australia, offering broadband, mobile, wireless, and business network services, and is powered by the Optus Mobile Network for its mobility services. The company's service options have been recognised by a number of consumer review and research organisations in Australia.
