Silvus unveils compact SM5200 tactical MANET radio
Silvus Technologies, which Motorola Solutions owns, has launched a new mobile ad hoc network radio for ground forces. The company said the StreamCaster MINI 5200 is its smallest fully featured tactical MANET radio.
The SM5200 sits in Silvus' StreamCaster product line. It targets users that need communications without fixed network infrastructure.
Compact radio
Silvus said the SM5200 weighs 182 grams. The company said the unit supports up to two watts of output power and up to 100 Mbps of data throughput.
The radio uses a two-by-two MIMO design, according to Silvus. The company also said the unit runs on its MN-MIMO waveform. It said StreamCaster radios form an adaptive mesh network across multiple nodes. Silvus said the network supports real-time data, including video.
"The SM5200 is a significant leap forward in providing communications flexibility at the tactical edge. It is the smallest radio we've ever built that delivers full-size StreamCaster MANET radio capabilities, helping operators gain maximum mobility without sacrificing the range or throughput they depend on," said Neema Daneshvar, Vice President of Product, Silvus Technologies.
Use cases
Silvus positioned the SM5200 for voice, video and data traffic. The company said the radio operates without dedicated infrastructure.
Silvus also said the SM5200 works as a standalone device. It also said users can integrate it into tactical networking systems, including StreamCaster NEXUS.
The company said the SM5200 reduces the need for bulky, cable-heavy setups. It linked that to operator freedom of movement during field operations.
Audio and PTT
Silvus said the SM5200 includes next-generation audio circuitry. The company said the radio supports advanced voice quality.
Silvus said the SM5200 includes a push-to-talk function. It said users can listen to two talk groups simultaneously.
The company also said the unit includes a radio over internet protocol interface. It said the interface integrates land mobile radio systems into Silvus mesh digital networks. The company said this keeps teams connected across devices.
Power and ports
Silvus said the SM5200 supports plug-and-play power options. It listed vehicle supplies and wearable batteries as examples.
The company said the radio provides connectivity for cameras, sensors and end-user devices. It said the unit includes ethernet, USB and RS-232 ports.
Rugged design
Silvus said the SM5200 uses a ruggedised enclosure with an IP68 waterproof rating. The company said the design targets harsh operating environments.
Security features
Silvus said the SM5200 includes AES256 and FIPS 140-3 encryption. The company said the radio protects sensitive data.
Silvus also referenced Spectrum Dominance 2.0. It described the offering as a licensable suite. The company said it includes low probability of intercept and low probability of detection features. It also said it includes anti-jam electronic warfare resiliency and threat protection features.
Corporate context
Silvus operates as a Motorola Solutions company. It sells MANET and MIMO communications systems for mission-critical users.
The SM5200 expands the StreamCaster range with a smaller format device. Silvus said it plans wider availability of the product through its tactical communications portfolio.
