Oracle Database@Azure launched in Australian market

Oracle and Microsoft have announced that Oracle Database@Azure is now available in Australia. This marks the first time the service is available in the Microsoft Azure Australia East region, enabling customers to combine Oracle Database services on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) with the capabilities of Azure. The launch aims to meet the growing demand for high-performance, scalable, and secure database solutions in the region.

The availability of Oracle Database@Azure in Australia adds to the existing regions in North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. The service allows customers to leverage the performance and scalability of Oracle Database on OCI while utilising the security and flexibility of Azure. With this expansion, businesses can deploy their Oracle Database services within the same datacentres as their Azure services, offering a unified and efficient cloud solution.

New updates to the Oracle Database@Azure solution include the Oracle Database Zero Data Loss Autonomous Recovery Service. This data protection solution enables organisations to quickly recover critical business data within seconds of an outage or ransomware attack. Oracle Database@Azure also now integrates with Microsoft Sentinel, a cloud-native security information and event management system designed to detect and stop cyber threats using intelligent security analytics.

In addition, OCI GoldenGate, a data mesh platform for real-time data analysis, is expected to be available soon as a managed service on Oracle Database@Azure. This service will offer full feature parity with OCI GoldenGate, ensuring high data availability through replication.

Significant customer momentum has been observed in the region, with organisations like Fonterra, New Zealand’s largest company, adopting the service. Scott Pyles, Chief Technology Officer at Fonterra, stated, "By leveraging this new solution from our two cloud partners, we can evolve our technology landscape faster and deliver a better solution to our business globally."

Currently, Oracle Database@Azure is available in six Azure regions, including Australia East, Canada Central, East US, France Central, Germany West Central, and UK South. Plans are in place to expand the service to fifteen more regions, including Central India, Japan East, and Spain Central, in response to the growing global demand.
