Masabi partners with V/Line to launch eTicketing by September

Thu, 12th Sep 2024

Masabi has announced it will be providing its eTicketing solution to V/Line, the organisation responsible for regional passenger train and coach services in Victoria, Australia. This initiative is set to launch by mid-September.

The implementation of eTicketing aims to facilitate passengers with easily accessible tickets through their smartphones, thereby eliminating the dependency on physical tickets and expediting the boarding process. Conductors will utilise Masabi's Justride Inspect feature within the Tally app to efficiently scan digital tickets.

Brian Zanghi, CEO of Masabi, stated, "This latest Masabi deployment in Australia shows the power of the Justride modular platform to rapidly deliver an eTicketing solution at the scale of a state-wide operator."

"We’re delighted to be working with V/Line to provide a solution that makes taking the train in Victoria as simple as possible."

Masabi's fare payment technology is currently utilised by over 200 public transport authorities and operators worldwide. Its modular, SaaS-based approach, leveraging standard APIs and SDKs, enables rapid market deployment and continuous evolution of its services.

The technology used for V/Line is similar to that employed by New York’s MTA, which is the largest transport operator in North America.

For the Victorian application, Masabi’s system will cover more than 2,200 weekly train services, integrating various functionalities such as Account Based Ticketing (ABT), Mobile QR code ticketing, and Open Payments using Contactless EMV technology.

This extensive suite of APIs and SDKs will allow V/Line to launch new functionalities easily and swiftly.

The integration of Masabi's platform offers V/Line the advantage of lower upfront costs and reduced risks associated with technological deployments. Moreover, the SaaS platform ensures the system will be regularly updated with new features and functionalities, thus maintaining a reliable and user-friendly service for passengers.

Masabi's ongoing project further exemplifies the practical benefits of the Justride platform for large-scale, state-wide operators such as V/Line. The aim is to enhance the public transportation experience by leveraging innovative digital solutions that minimise physical ticket production and streamline the ticket verification process.
