Kacific wins Gold Stevie for tech innovation at Asia-Pacific awards

Fri, 7th Jun 2024

Kacific Broadband Satellites  has clinched the prestigious Gold Stevie Award for Excellence in Innovation in Technology Industries at the Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards 2024. This accolade adds to Kacific’s previous triumphs at the Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards, which include multiple Gold and Silver Stevie awards secured in 2022 and 2023.

The Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards are widely recognised as the premier international business awards, focusing specifically on innovation in various business facets across the Asia-Pacific region. This year, Kacific stood out among over 1,000 nominations considered by judges for successfully dismantling connectivity barriers and exerting a transformative influence within the satellite communications (Satcom) and technology industries.

Since the deployment of Kacific1 in 2019, the company has strategically leveraged powerful Ka-band satellite technologies to bridge the digital divide in underserved and unserved regions. The Kacific1 satellite employs a High Throughput Satellite (HTS) design, utilising 56 powerful spot beams that reuse the same spectrum. This design ensures greater spectral efficiency and reduces costs per Mbps compared to traditional Fixed Satellite Service (FSS) satellites. Presently, Kacific1 orbits above the Asia-Pacific, connecting 25 countries and enabling communities, schools, healthcare facilities, and businesses to access the internet.

Kacific has also formed numerous strategic partnerships with local government agencies, Internet Service Provider (ISP) partners, and distributors to provide cost-effective, high-speed, and reliable broadband to underserved regions. Notable projects include the Papua New Guinea E-Government Vision, collaboration with the Philippine government to expand nationwide connectivity, and the GuarantCo partnership project aimed at supporting healthcare, education, and community facilities across the Asia-Pacific.

The company’s robust local presence is evident through its collaboration with over 600 partners, including telcos, ISPs, and distributors. These partnerships not only cater to customer needs but also contribute significantly to economic development in remote and rural areas.

In response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Kacific swiftly adjusted its business model by introducing a franchise retail approach. The launch of Gigstarter, a flexible pay-per-month-per-site broadband plan, made internet access more accessible for small businesses and entrepreneurs by providing unlimited data and a fully managed service without the need for costly infrastructure investments or wholesale contracts. Additionally, Kacific has introduced the Speed Boost promotion and Free Terminal and Installation subsidy promotions, underscoring its commitment to providing value and attracting new customers.

Beyond retail innovations, Kacific offers FlexVNO, which delivers wholesale Ka-band satellite bandwidth to ISPs and telcos, allowing them to customise services for their customers. Recognising the need for emergency response in disaster-prone areas in the Asia-Pacific, Kacific offers the award-winning CommsBox – a compact, self-sufficient unit providing instant internet access to aid relief operations.

Kacific attributes its numerous achievements to the dedicated support and collaboration of over 600 partners, ISPs, and distributors.
