Hands on-review: OPPO Watch X2 smartwatch

Fri, 11th Jul 2025

OPPO's latest flagship wearable, the Watch X2, has finally landed. Now that its on my wrist, it's clear this is a smartwatch built for those who want the lot: robust design, impressive health features and battery life that goes the distance. For anyone seeking a well-rounded wearable that doesn't compromise on looks or function, the OPPO Watch X2 makes a compelling case.

Design and durability

The Watch X2 immediately stands out with its premium materials and versatile styling. Available in two distinct finishes – Lava Black with a comfortable fluorine rubber strap or Summit Blue with a classic leather band – it's crafted to look sharp whether you're hitting the gym or heading to a meeting. The polished stainless steel case is paired with a titanium alloy bezel, adding not just a sense of luxury but also genuine toughness. The sapphire crystal glass over the 1.5-inch OLED display shrugs off daily knocks, and after two weeks' use, mine remained scratch-free.

With military-grade MIL-STD-810H certification, IP68 dust and water resistance, and 5ATM waterproofing, this is a smartwatch ready for anything. The overall fit feels secure but not bulky, and interchangeable straps mean you can tailor it to suit any occasion.

Display and navigation

OPPO has equipped the Watch X2 with a stunning LTPO AMOLED screen boasting a peak brightness of 2,200 nits, making it clear and vibrant even in bright sunlight. Navigating the watch is a breeze thanks to the responsive Wear OS 5 software, enhanced by OPPO's ColourOS Watch interface. The rotating crown and shortcut button on the right side are thoughtfully placed and easy to use, whether you're scrolling through notifications or starting a workout.

Performance and battery life

Under the hood, the Watch X2 runs on a dual-chipset setup (Snapdragon W5 and BES2800BP), delivering smooth performance while keeping energy consumption in check. But it's the battery life that truly impresses: expect up to five days in Smart Mode or a staggering 16 days in Power Saver Mode. In daily use, I comfortably reached nearly three days on a single charge, even with sleep and activity tracking enabled.

Charging is swift with OPPO's Watch VOOC flash charge system, delivering a day's use from just a ten-minute top-up. If you already own an OPPO phone, you're likely to have a compatible charger at hand – a small but handy detail.

Health and fitness features

The OPPO Watch X2 packs a serious health toolkit. The headline addition is the 60-second Health Check-In, giving you a quick snapshot of your heart rate, SpO2, and wrist temperature. There's advanced 24-hour heart rate tracking via a new eight-channel sensor, ECG functionality (pending regional availability), stress monitoring and even sleep analysis with apnea detection. While not every feature will appeal to all users, runners and active types will appreciate the dual-frequency GPS, accurate activity stats and more than 100 tracked workout types.

Dedicated sports modes now cover tennis and badminton, offering detailed swing and stroke metrics, alongside the usual running, cycling and swimming options. The OHealth app provides deep dives into your activity and wellbeing stats, though much of the key data is accessible directly on the watch itself.

Everyday smarts

With Wear OS 5 on board, the Watch X2 seamlessly syncs with your Android smartphone. You can take calls, reply to messages, make contactless payments with Google Wallet and even install your favourite apps via the Play Store. A wide selection of customisable watch faces rounds out the experience, letting you tailor the look to suit your mood.

Verdict

The OPPO Watch X2 is an outstanding all-rounder that genuinely lives up to its promise of durability, practicality and long-lasting power. Whether you're an athlete, a busy professional or someone simply seeking a stylish, functional companion for your wrist, this smartwatch ticks all the boxes – and does so at a price that undercuts many flagship rivals. If you want a wearable that works as hard as you do, the Watch X2 is hard to look past.
