Aqara launches G400 wired doorbell camera in Australia

Aqara has officially launched its new G400 wired smart doorbell camera in Australia, with the device priced at AUD $199.
As part of a limited introductory promotion, Australian customers will also be able to purchase the smart doorbell for a reduced launch price of AUD $149.
The new 2K-resolution video doorbell is designed for homeowners seeking a permanently powered security solution that does not rely on rechargeable batteries.
Aqara says the G400 can be installed using either Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) connectivity or through existing 8-24V doorbell wiring, while also supporting dual-band Wi-Fi 6 for faster and more reliable wireless performance.
The Australian release further expands Aqara's growing local smart home portfolio, following the recent debut of the company's G350 smart camera in the market.
Aqara says the G400 is one of only a limited number of video doorbells currently available in Australia that supports Apple HomeKit Secure Video, while also offering compatibility with major smart home ecosystems including Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Samsung SmartThings.
The device features a wide 165-degree field of view alongside a vertically optimised 3:4 aspect ratio, enabling users to clearly see visitors standing at the front door as well as parcels left on the ground outside.
Unlike battery-powered alternatives, the G400 also supports continuous 24/7 video recording, removing the need for ongoing battery charging or routine maintenance.
Offline detection
Motion and person detection are built into the device, allowing alerts to continue if the internet connection fails. Users can also set custom detection zones to monitor areas such as a front path or porch.
Additional paid cloud features are available through Aqara's HomeGuardian service, including face, package, vehicle and animal recognition, along with video search and summary tools.
Platform support
The G400 is designed to work across multiple smart home systems rather than a single platform. Alongside Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home and SmartThings, it supports RTSP and ONVIF for use with network video recorders and other third-party systems.
When a visitor presses the bell, the homeowner receives a video call on their phone with two-way audio. Quick-reply messages are also available for those who do not want to answer live.
Storage options
The doorbell supports local recording to a microSD card of up to 512GB, as well as automatic backup to a NAS server. Aqara's cloud option offers up to 90 days of end-to-end encrypted recording.
Privacy features include video region masking and voice modification during two-way conversations. A tamper alarm also sounds if someone tries to remove the device.
The G400 has an IP65 rating for outdoor use in wet and dusty conditions. In the box, Aqara includes adhesive and screw-mount options, a 15-degree wedge bracket for positioning, and a wireless chime unit.
Aqara says it now serves more than 12 million users across five continents and sells products in more than 30 categories.
