11:11 Systems buys Aussie Broadband's Digital Sense
11:11 Systems has acquired Digital Sense, a Brisbane-based cloud and managed services provider previously owned by Aussie Broadband. The deal expands 11:11 Systems' footprint in Australia and adds another VMware-focused business to its portfolio.
Digital Sense provides cloud and managed services to Australian customers and has operated as a VMware Cloud Service Provider partner. For 11:11 Systems, the transaction is its seventh acquisition of a former VMware Cloud Service Provider and its 10th acquisition overall.
Partner shifts
The acquisition comes amid ongoing changes in the VMware partner landscape following Broadcom's takeover of VMware. Broadcom has reduced the number of authorised VMware partners and reshaped the VMware Cloud Service Provider ecosystem, prompting some service providers to review their VMware operations and supplier relationships.
Aussie Broadband tied the sale to market and strategic factors, including higher investment requirements for cloud services and further partner programme changes expected in 2027. It also cited its "Look-to-28" strategy, which prioritises telecommunications over a broader technology portfolio.
11:11 Systems said the deal would keep Digital Sense customers on VMware-based cloud infrastructure under a specialist operator and supports its growth plans across Asia-Pacific.
"Across the globe, 11:11 has been working closely with cloud service providers to help customers stay secure, compliant and perform at their best as the market evolves," said Brett Diamond, CEO of 11:11 Systems. "Digital Sense has earned a standout reputation across Australia for delivering high-performance cloud solutions, and we're excited to welcome their customers to 11:11's resilient cloud platform-providing the stability they need today and the innovation to keep moving forward."
Acquisition track
11:11 Systems has grown through a mix of organic expansion and acquisitions, including several cloud and managed services firms with VMware heritage. Recent purchases include iland Cloud, Green Cloud Defence, Unitas Global, Sungard Availability Services, Faction and Ntirety.
Those acquisitions have expanded its experience in managed infrastructure, increased the scale of its cloud platform, and broadened its offerings in areas such as backup, cyber security and disaster recovery.
Marc Beder, General Manager, APAC at 11:11 Systems, said the deal continues the company's investment in the region.
"This acquisition reflects 11:11 Systems' continued commitment to growth and investment across APAC," Beder said. "By bringing Digital Sense into 11:11, we're expanding our presence in Australia while strengthening our ability to deliver world-class cloud and managed services throughout the region. We're excited to build on Digital Sense's strong reputation and continue providing innovative, secure and scalable solutions that evolve with business needs in the region."
Aussie Broadband focus
For Aussie Broadband, the sale is a portfolio decision as it narrows its focus to telecommunications. It weighed the cost and complexity of staying competitive in cloud services against the direction of the VMware partner ecosystem.
Ben O'Shea, GM of Transformation & Cloud at Aussie Broadband, said 11:11 Systems was a suitable owner for the cloud business given its focus on VMware environments.
"With the investment required to remain competitive in the cloud space and the upcoming changes to the partner ecosystem in 2027, we determined that 11:11 Systems was the right home for our cloud business," O'Shea said. "Their deep specialisation in VMware environments ensures our customers will receive the strategic focus they deserve, while we sharpen our focus on our telecommunications strengths."
What changes
Neither company disclosed financial terms or provided details on staffing, customer migration timelines, or changes to existing Digital Sense service arrangements.
Customers of managed service providers with VMware-based offerings have faced uncertainty since Broadcom began reshaping VMware's partner and pricing structures. In Australia, service providers and channel partners have been weighing whether to invest further in VMware services, shift to alternative platforms, or consolidate with larger operators.
Under 11:11 Systems' ownership, Digital Sense customers will continue to have access to VMware cloud infrastructure. 11:11 Systems also said the acquisition strengthens its ability to deliver cloud and managed services across Australia and the broader Asia-Pacific region.
