Powertec unveils cloud platform to optimise Australia's 4G & 5G networks

Thu, 30th May 2024

Powertec Wireless Technology has announced the launch of its National Coverage Model (NCM), a cloud-based platform designed to analyse the coverage and performance of Australia's 4G and 5G networks.

In a significant leap for the technology sector, NCM promises a comprehensive and detailed view of network performance, enabling technology professionals to deploy and optimise cellular technologies with newfound precision. The platform covers the top network providers Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone, providing a high-resolution snapshot of 4G and 5G networks nationwide and extending to maritime zones.

The NCM platform boasts an intuitive interface, allowing users to easily check and compare mobile coverage for any location within Australia. This tool is seen as a game-changer for consultants, property developers, and other professionals who rely on robust wireless connectivity. From assessing mobile coverage for new residential developments to planning drone operations beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS), the NCM provides critical insights into the availability and speed of 4G and 5G networks.

Among its suite of features, NCM includes coverage checking by address or GPS coordinates to determine network availability. Users can predict signal strength, indicated by the Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP), through real-world data. Additionally, the platform offers predictions on mobile data speed, taking into account factors such as terrain, vegetation, and nearby buildings that could affect performance.

NCM also aids in identifying the best and alternative serving cell towers, facilitating effective planning for emergency outages and disaster scenarios. Users can review the elevation profile, distance, and direction of each serving cell, assisting in the precise calibration of equipment for optimal connectivity. Comprehensive graphical mapping features support the easy generation of connectivity reports, making it simpler to evaluate multiple sites simultaneously.

Doug Pukallus, Chief Technical Officer at Powertec, expressed his enthusiasm for the new platform. "The Powertec team are proud to be building technologies that help change the way our nation connects. Australia is an incredibly vast place. The connectivity challenges that our remote communities face can be vastly different from those in dense urban areas, and different still from those working on construction and mining projects. But before we can fix any problem, we first must understand it," he said.

Pukallus also highlighted the platform's potential to solve Australia's connectivity challenges and aid the development of new technologies. "It has been an absolute privilege to develop the NCM. I am excited to see how our valued partners put it to use in solving our country's connectivity challenges and developing new technologies from its insights," he added.

Established in 1995, Powertec has emerged as a provider of connectivity solutions, serving mobile network operators, private enterprises, government departments, defence and emergency services. The company has a long-standing reputation for ensuring clients remain connected regardless of location.
