Commvault solutions cut cyber recovery times by 99 percent
Recent analyst research has highlighted the impact of Commvault's Cleanroom Recovery and Cloud Rewind solutions on improving organisations' cyber recovery capabilities.
Amidst an increasing frequency of cyber threats, many organisations face lengthy disruptions following major attacks, with some reporting recovery times of up to 24 days. Recent findings from the Enterprise Strategy Group show that Commvault's solutions are contributing to a significant reduction in these recovery periods.
Economic validation
The Enterprise Strategy Group conducted an analysis entitled, "Analyzing the Economic Benefits of Commvault Cleanroom Recovery and Cloud Rewind." The report is based on validated results from nine different industries, examining how Commvault's technologies support faster and more reliable recoveries from cyber incidents.
The study found that organisations using Commvault's solutions reduced recovery times by 99% and achieved 94% faster rebuilds of cloud infrastructure. It also noted a 30-fold improvement in the frequency of recovery testing and a 99% reduction in testing time.
"With customer-reported and Enterprise Strategy Group-validated results across nine industries, we believe Commvault has cracked the code on recoverability, delivering 99% faster recovery of data and 94% faster rebuild of cloud infrastructure, and most impressively, with zero non-recoverable data," according to Nathan McAfee, Principal Economic Validation Analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group. "This confidence of recovery has become a major catalyst in customer adoption of both Commvault Cloud's Cleanroom Recovery and Cloud Rewind, leading to accelerated cloud adoption for organisations, enabling them to rapidly restore to minimum viability following a cyber incident and operate in a state of continuous business."
These technologies are designed to reduce downtime by enabling critical applications and data to be restored in isolated, secure environments, allowing organisations to resume operations and conduct forensic analysis after a cyber event.
Customer perspectives
Users of Commvault's services have provided feedback on how these tools have affected their operations. Nate Hauenstein, IT Global Infrastructure & Operations Director at Chart Industries, described the changes seen at his organisation:
"Knowing you can recover is one thing but knowing you can recover quickly and cleanly is on a whole other level," said Nate Hauenstein. "Before Commvault Cleanroom Recovery, restoration scenarios could take upwards of seven hours. For select systems, where we voluntarily introduced an additional step to integrate the latest hourly transaction backups and further tighten recovery points, we still achieve restoration in around 12 minutes. This drastic reduction minimises operational risk and validates our trust in Commvault's ability to deliver true cyber resilience."
Other organisations, such as the University of Illinois Chicago, have also spoken about their engagements with Commvault in managing recoverability plans. Dean Dang, Director of Enterprise Applications and Services Technology Solutions at the University, stated:
"We meet with Commvault quarterly to examine our recoverability plans and share best practices. None of our other IT vendors do this," said Dean Dang. "We work with over 100 vendors; Commvault is absolutely at the top as far as treating us like partners."
Constellation Energy, Sedgwick County Division of Information & Operations, Lombardia Informatica SpA, and others are also utilising Commvault's approach in their own cyber recovery planning and operational continuity strategies.
Role in industry
Commvault claims its offering is providing organisations with a way to test their cyber recovery plans cost-effectively and reinstate business services promptly.
"This Enterprise Strategy Group validation confirms what our customers already know: cyber resilience is no longer a theoretical exercise," said Govind Rangasamy, Head of Recovery Solutions & VP of Portfolio Marketing at Commvault. "With Cleanroom Recovery and Cloud Rewind, we not only help customers advance readiness within their organisations, but we help them accelerate recoveries of cloud applications following an attack – essential as it's often the cloud applications that power the data that drives the business."
The Allcargo Group Companies further report improvements in the automation and efficiency of recovery processes, as explained by Venkata Sudhakar Nagandla, Senior Vice President & Global Head-IT Infrastructure & Cloud:
"Recovery using Cloud Rewind is much faster than relying on physical DR because the solution automates many key tasks - from restoring data to replicating virtual network configurations. This means we can spend more time uncovering the root causes of downtime, instead of focusing all our efforts in getting systems back online," said Venkata Sudhakar Nagandla.
Commvault's Cloud platform, including Cleanroom Recovery and Cloud Rewind, is available across multiple public cloud marketplaces, supporting organisations in their efforts to manage and recover from cyber incidents in complex IT environments.
